Vanderhoof Skatepark - East York, Ontario

The main attraction at Vanderhoof Skatepark is the huge bowl. It's a U-shaped bowl, and there's a big cradle at one end of the U. I had to look up what the cradle is called--I'd never seen one in person before. The bowl is probably a great place to come and make friends with like-minded bowl enthusiasts.

Behind the bowl is a neglected street section. There's a 6-stair with a narrow down ledge. One third of the 6-stair has the bottom 4 stairs filled in like a bank. Another third has the bottom 5 stairs filled in. There's not much run-up, so I doubt you could use this like a euro gap. And there's a narrow flat ledge in between these 2 sections; it's about 4 feet off the ground and looks terrifying.

There's a long two-level ledge. Opposite this is kind of a fun box with a bank on one side and a 3-stair and down ledge on the other side. And there's a parking block. This is probably a good place to practice flat-ground, because the street section was totally empty even though the bowl was busy when I was there.

Great tucked away sports area with basketball and a great skateboard park and small training area off to the side 4 skateboards and scootering practicing for beginners

the park itself is a bit small but probably has the best bowl in all of the GTA

As far as the bowl area goes, this park is top notch. Has held up surprisingly well considering it’s age. The bowl gets a 4.5 outta 5. You won’t find a cradle like that anywhere else in Ontario. At least not that I know of. Vanderhoof is also the site of an popular annual contest sponsored by Vans called “Hoedown at the Hoof.”

The street section is a different story. It’s clear that the bowl is where all the money went into. A 6 stair with awkward hubba, long ledge, and loading dock type ramp/3 stair is all that the Hoof offers in the way of street obstacles.

So unless you can tear up a large miniramp or full sized bowl, don’t even bother with this one.

This just one spot of the park. There is garbage everywhere at this park. The city has big garbage bins everywhere but the people don't use them

Great park with a fast and fun bowl. Mellow transitions make it easy to ride. Good concrete that has held up nicely. One very minor negative is that the pool coping is set back a little far and is tough to lock in to.

Great place to bring my son. Its a normal skate park but my son has made some friends with some older boys who have taken a huge liking to him. They have taught him a lot and have become good friends.
