Bella Coola Vehicle Rentals is terrific. Most excellent customer service. Had an amazing off road adventure with a great Jeep. Steve was really helpful and a super nice guy with interesting stories.

Great service. Straight off the plane, I was picking up my keys and chatting with Steve and Dave, very friendly people. I got a Jeep Liberty, and it's just what you need for the forest service roads around Bella Coola - some of the roads are are rough! But the Liberty is a tough one. They aren't like Hertz, Avis etc.... if there's a scratch on your car then they expect that, but it's only if you return the car with a door missing or something else of that magnitude that you'll having a conversation.

Best rental car experience of my life, if you can believe it! And I travel a lot, relatively often to exotic places and obscure wildernesses. It's partly a function of the location, that there are forest service roads to spectacular natural landscapes (to Odegaard Falls and well beyond it, to M Gurr Lake and beyond it, and to other high country) that can only be driven in a proper 4WD. And the whole idea of this company is to rent vehicles that can handle such roads--and specifically to encourage you to use them for this purpose, wear on the vehicles be damned--while also being spotless and in good shape for the regular tooling around town in the valley that you need to do. We had a Jeep Liberty that was hardly new but had been scrupulously maintained and cleaned for its entire life and performed and looked like it was brand new. Good tires, too. We had so much fun and hiked such spectacular and remote scenery thanks specifically to the jeep.

On top of this, Steve and David are super friendly and knowledgeable, and were happy to give advice and suggestions about the roads, hiking and camping options, and more. This was really helpful because the tourist office has minimal info on such things, at least when we stopped in, nor did we find any info at the provincial park. These guys can even tell you where the river crossings or roads might be washed out, and how to get pass them. If you're not that experienced with 4WD vehicles, just ask and they'll give you tips.

They also had a convenient option of leaving the jeep at the ferry terminal for us to pick up when we got off late in the evening.

There are a lot of cool things to do in Bella Coola but DO NOT MISS THE OPPORTUNITY TO RENT ONE OF THESE JEEPS TO GET UP INTO THE HIGH COUNTRY! If you don't do it, you're missing what may be the best part of Bella Coola, which you've already made quite a bit of effort to get to. Apparently even basic maintenance of these forest roads is no longer funded and there is worry they may not be passable even in a jeep for many more years. So get your butts up there while you can, and do your part to help make the case that the back country is in fact one of the greatest draws of Bella Coola for the long-term and that those roads need to be maintained enough for use by well equipped and maintained 4WDs, exactly as Steve and David have on offer.
