This is my third year riding with Aquitaine Bikes. They have been fabulous. Riding in La Dordogne is the best. I have been provided with state of the art LaPierre bikes to ride. This year I am riding a brand new road bike. A particular complement to Robert Owensmith. He not only “talks the talk,” but he “rides the rides.” He knows all of the local routes and has been a source of incredible support and information. I cannot say enough good things about Aquitaine Bikes and Robert Owensmith. Look no further!!

Robert and Amy have taken cycle rentals in Dordogne to the next level. Their service was beyond what you’d ever expect - and exactly what you need. Nice bikes that are well maintained, stellar routes, notes and maps, luggage transfer, attentive service and a detailed orientation. They went above and beyond - and it didn’t feel atypical (even delivering a forgotten necklace!). Our Aquitaine Bike tour was outstanding! Robert’s orientation prepared us thoroughly His maps and written directions of the route were excellent and easy to follow, as were his suggestions on attractions along the way. The routes followed secondary roads or bike paths. They were very scenic and relaxing. His tours are custom designed to meet individual needs. We added a canoe paddle down the Dordogne, past picturesque castles and ancient villages. We loved the cave art near Les Eyzies. With years of experience, Robert has created an tour that exceeded our high expectations. Aquitaine Bike has our highest recommendation for anyone looking for an adventure pedaling through beautiful, historical countryside!

I’ve been renting bikes from Robbie since 2010 and recommend him wholeheartedly. The bikes are well equipped with bags, locks or locks and water bottles, but it’s the personalised routes that really make the difference. Robbie will always recommend routes to suit your location and needs and his local knowledge makes all the difference. We did two beautiful rides this week - one to Beynac and one via Castelnaud and Milandes that will stay with me for years to come. Thanks Robbie - hopefully we’ll be back.

Robert and Aquitaine Bike provided a wonderful experience for our first biking adventure in the Dourdogne region of France. First, the two bikes and set-ups for my wife and I were essentially brand new high quality Trek hybrids — perfect for easy touring through the rolling landscape. I was particularly pleased Robert provided me with a 63 cm / XXL sized bike to match my 6’ 3’ needs. Next, drawing from his years of detailed understanding of the various itinerary options, Robert had prepared a detailed map and written instructions for our journey — customized for our specific interests, skills and desires (may wife and I are experienced riders — accustomed to 30-45 miles per day — nevertheless, Robert’s plans included both the rides we asked for, plus thoughtful cut-offs to reduce the mileage on any day if we had wanted). Finally, Aquitaine provided the daily service as expected: we left our baggage with the hotel of departure, then arrived in the late afternoon to find our bags placed in our rooms prior to arrival at our destination hotel — seamless! As a final note, Robert provided experienced recommendations for stops and restaurants through out, and his good cheer was contagious — passed on to us and to our hotel proprietors. A wonderful “six star” experience that we highly recommend.

We rented bikes from Aquitaine Bikes for an eight day tour of the Dordogne. What an excellent choice! The Trek bikes were light, responsive, and well-maintained. Robert Owen Smith provides pre-planned tours or he can help you design routes to suit your individual needs. Robert offered excellent advice and recommendations, as well as the background and history of the area. We highly recommend Aquitaine Bikes and we gladly use them again.
