The staff were friendly and helpful, BUT, this was the dirtiest rental vehicle I have ever received. The interior especially was filthy, with crumbs, sticky goo, bits of gum, nuts and random bits of plastic. There was a deep cigarette burn in the passenger seat, and stains on all the seats. It smelt like bubblegum mixed with stale smoke. Disappointing.

Awful. Gave us wrong car had to drive 2 hours to get correct car which they’d promised us over the phone - on arrival claimed had no knowledge of call and no car available -were rude and unpleasant. Hard to contact office only open when flights arrive. Overcharged us by over 200eu.

Dreadful. We hired 2 cars for 2 days. My sons car had a puncture the next morning . No spare, no equipment to repair tyre in either car! No response from sos telephone numbers. Eventually car was taken away by a breakdown truck which we arranged. Alamo have tried to take €2,500 from my sons card. He only had the car for a few hours. 6 people were left in the middle of nowhere in the pouring rain.

Contrary to the other reviews I had a great experience with Alamo. We had a car for 2 days which was booked last minute (when I say last minute, I mean it literally. I booked the car in the airport terminal after landing and walked outside to the hire place to pick it up). The lady on the desk could not have been more helpful, was very friendly and spoke perfect English. The car had quite a lot of damage already, like most panels had some scratch or dent, but I don't really care about that.

There is some confusing insurance excess policy that I couldn't quite understand, which was my only concern, seemed the excess amount was quite excessive (!) but we didn't have any problems and we're only charged for the rental.

Thank you to Alamon for sorting us out last minute and thank you to the lady on the desk (Christine?) You were great.

Don’t go near them! Got a puncture the day after getting it. Finally managed to talk to someone who got a pick up to call back and come. Couldn’t get hold of Alamo the rest of the trip. Were left on the road to walk. No spare wheel, no repair kit and now trying to take £2500 off the named drivers card

DON'T USE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

I rented an Opel Crossland X for two weeks from 25 July to 8 Aug. A couple of days into my car rental a light came up on the dashboard indicating an issue with tire pressure. Being in the middle of the French countryside, I used the tire repair kit (which I found in the boot) to pump up the rear tire on the right-hand side. That tire was then fine for the best part of the week until the dashboard lit up again and I had to top up the pressure at a gas station. After that the issue didn't reoccur.

When I returned the vehicle on 8 Aug I (stupidly) mentioned the issue to the lady inspecting the vehicle, and also the fact that I had used the tire repair kit. She confirmed that there was no visible damage to the tire and that the dashboard light was off and indicated that I "might be charged" for the price of the sealant included with the repair kit. LITTLE DID I KNOW...

A few days later I received an incident report which mentioned a punctured tire and I was absolutely shocked when my credit card was charged THE FULL EXCESS OF €1,500. One and a half grand for pumping up a tire!!! I am now trying to understand what clause of their T&Cs allows them to do that but no satisfactory answer has been provided to me nor any proof of any repairs.

ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING.

Very disappointing indeed
We are experienced travellers and often use companied such as Almo when renting vehicles abroad. We are perfectly accustomed to not receiving the vehicle listed on the web site so that is not a problem. What is a problem is being offered only an automatic transmission when we have requested a manual. We are from the UK, where very few vehicles have automatic transmissions and when we specifically ask for a manual we expect to receive one. The model, make, engine size and everything else is adaptable, the transmission absolutely not so!
On this occasion, my wife was extremely upset at the offer of an automatic transmission. She protested at the time but was offered no alternatives. It was a ‘take it or leave it’ situation. It was a Sunday and we had plans so she felt compelled to accept. It took her a full week of our 2-week holiday to get accustomed to it. In the meantime, we altered our plans as we had long haul drives planned which we were compelled to change as my wife was feeling ill-accustomed to the car – especially its lack of responsiveness (manual drivers will know what we mean by this). We also spent a great deal more on petrol that we would have – had we been provided with a manual vehicle as requested.
Upon complaining to Alamo, we were phoned by a representative who offered a 50% reduction on the basis of our account that it took a full week of our 2-week holiday to grow accustomed to the car. Although this did not account for the additional petrol costs, we accepted. Around 15 minutes later he phoned back to say that he had spoken to his manager and the offer was now a non-negotiable 15% which, frankly, is derisory.
Since then we have tried and tried (in vain) to get a response, any response, from Alamo customer services. They tend to send pleasant sounding emails initially promising their attention, before then failing to communicate with us. On one occasion we were promised a call from the management at Limoges airport to agree a resolution. That call was never received. Very poor service. A company without a customer service spirit or inclination. My advice would be to avoid them.
