It’s a good location and the apartments are cute, but this is by far the most poorly managed apartment I have ever lived in. There were mistakes on the lease, no clarity/understanding of the various fees, and issues with the appliances. I’ve also been locked out of the building multiple times when the electronic locking system didn’t have power, and the power itself has been shut off on numerous occasions while construction goes on next door. The parking situation has also been a mess, and I have lived here for nearly four months and still don’t have a mail key or the ability to have packages delivered here. The leasing team cannot seem to answer emails or follow through on things and it has all been very frustrating.

This building had such potential for charm; it looked so cute in the photos. I rented my unit before arriving in town & they insisted on a minimum 8month lease. But they failed to disclose that it was a basement unit with only small windows & a view of a busy driveway beside a building under construction. They "claimed" to have painted my walls prior to my taking possession but it was clear they had not because there was still toothpaste on the walls from the previous tenant & the carpet had not been vacuummed in years. The place was absolutely filthy & was infested with cockroaches & mice. The heat blasted all winter long; so much so that I was lying in a pool of my own sweat every night...and the heater in my unit was off so this was just the ambient heat from the hallway. There were constantly homeless ppl sleeping inside the stairwells; the parking lot was riddled with used needles & addicts. The neighbours were noisy: either playing death metal music at full volume all weekend long, or what sounded like bowling on their floors every night or endless domestic disputes. Management was clearly letting the building slide because they planned on condemning it. Repairs were cheaply done in a shotty manner & only after repeated requests. I do not recommend renting from this organization at all. The absolute worst accommodation I have ever lived in.

Update: I have to take of another star, maybe two depending on how long this goes on. But for the past month, the boiler has been broken and not working consistently. So most of the time no one in the building can use their heaters. I’m wearing layers throughout the apt because it’s freezing, and it’s not even winter yet which I’m very anxious about. Also the internet keeps going out, it was out for a day last week and 2-3 days the week before and then random times for short periods. The on-site laundry isn’t a feature anymore since they closed access to it, which was a major reason for choosing this complex. They said they’re working on setting it up in this building instead, but who knows when that will be. So we are paying $129 a month for internet, over $100 in apt utilities (not including electricity), and don’t even get discounted for the services we are paying for but aren’t receiving and the major inconvenience this is causing.

Previous Review:
The management team here has been incredible to work with. They really pulled through when I had two days to apply for and move into a new apartment. That was above and beyond! And they’ve been so kind since. I even transferred apartments so I could sign a longer lease.

I love the apartment itself. It’s definitely old, not modern, but it’s unique and has character. There’s a lot of storage areas in the apartment, which I appreciate. The south building has a beautiful courtyard to relax in. The location is convenient as well, a 6 minute walk to the grocery store, lots of bus stops, restaurants, bars, bookstores, parks, the Salt Lake Library, City Creek, etc. in walking distance. Plenty of parking around too.

The lack of a star is because I had to do a lot of cleaning when I moved in to both apartments. Don’t expect damage free or pristine condition, again it’s a very old building. But it’s cozy and I like it anyway.

BEST LOCATION! City Line is one of the most affordable place to live downtown or in the Avenues, and really has that downtown vibe, almost like San Fran or New York... almost. I can walk everywhere and it was really easy to get to know the city.

AWESOME CHARACTER! I rented a one bedroom and this place is really cool. I'm not a huge interior design guy but this building was built over 100 years ago and is full of charm. Pretty big rooms too, especially for downtown. I can hear my upstairs neighbor stomping around, but that's apartment life

FRIENDLY STAFF Honestly, the negative reviews about management are not inline with my experience. The leasing staff and property manager are friendly, caring people. They are strict, but they are also fair. It's pretty simple; pay your rent on time and you will enjoy the staff just as much as you do the property.

In closing, if you want to live in debate-ably the best location in SLC, reside in a beautiful, quaint building that's full of character, and you plan to pay your rent/be a responsible human being, I would not hesitate to sign a lease at the City Line Apartments!

First off, the management personnel was fine and treated us kindly throughout our stay. This review is not about them. This review is for the living conditions of this place. It is the actual owners who should be ashamed.

Our apartment was not thoroughly cleaned prior to moving, despite cleaning fees being charged at move out. Stained carpets, greasy stove, rice underneath the stove, hair left around the bathroom, and random stuff throughout.

Some of the neighbors were terrible. I'm talking about parties lasting through the entire night. Above us, our neighbor next to us, parties out on the patio.

Dog owners seldom picked up their dog's poop, and the grass of the patio area always had some left there. So many dogs live here that it causes yellow spots on the grasses from their urine. Beer cans often left around the patio area. I saw used condoms in the stairwells, twice. Dog feces, and urine (hoping it was dog urine) in the stairwells a few times. Dog feces dragged in by shoes. Once I saw the aftermath of a vagrant that blew his, um, diarrhea load in a alcove near the entrance to the parking garage structures. People would smoke cigarettes in their apartments. Marijuana smells in the hallways were a constant. Laundry facilities were often left with people's clothes. People would leave their clothes in washers or dryers for hours after completion!

This place was simply disgusting and some of the people were just low class trash. Some were good.

I would never recommend this place to any friends or family. Location was great, and parking worked great for us. The only two positives. If the owners would just put some money in renovations, grounds maintenance, security (never saw security despite the claims there are patrols), and become absolutely strict on their policies this place could be gold.

I recently moved out of CityLine Apartments. During my time there, I had to deal with other tenants who felt as though they were entitled to make rules regarding living there purely because they have been living there so long. One in particular made me feel very uncomfortable on multiple occasions, as he would confront me in the hallway wearing nothing but shorts. While I was living there, my dog was admittedly a nuisance when I was gone, as he has separation anxiety and would sometimes bark for a few minutes. However, even though I knew exactly how long he would bark while I was gone thanks to a camera I had set up in the apartment, my neighbors would continually send emails to the property manager claiming he would bark for hours and hours. In addition to this, I was able to start a collection of notes from other tenants telling me how I'm a terrible person and how they hoped I would get evicted, and they often made threats to my dog. I feel as though management should have taken a stronger approach to ensuring this did not happen, as I felt very uncomfortable around the other individuals who lived in the complex, with a few key exceptions. It was a VERY hostile environment. There is also an extensive issue with vagrants in the area. On more than one instance, homeless individuals would be found loitering in the courtyard behind the building, and they would often knock over the cigarette butt disposal thing in order to try to find a butt they could still smoke. They can also be found rooting through the dumpsters regularly. Most alarmingly, as I was moving out, I was cleaning out my parking stall (which cost an additional $50/month, where my truck was also broken into TWICE) when I found a LOADED HANDGUN sitting in the corner of my stall. On top of all of that, there is a new guy who started at the property management office recently who deemed it necessary to charge me a nearly $50 cleaning fee on top of a $50 carpet cleaning fee, even though the apartment was spotless when I left. He informed me that it was very clean, but there was "just a little bit" of cleaning left to be done, so that justifies $50 fees I guess? I also had moved into my new place nearly a month before the end of my lease at Cityline, but they still are charging me the same amount for utilities as I paid when I lived there full-time. After digging with the same guy, I found that they charge for utilities based on the entire building's usage. Keep in mind that there are some apartments that have three people living in them, which equates to much more utility usage. I practically didn't use my utilities at all during the last month, and they still want to charge me for the entire building's usage (nearly $90). Needless to say, there is a lot of room for improvement here. The only reason I'm giving it a three-star rating is because the actual property manager was very kind to let me vacate early under a very fair agreement, as I wanted to leave so that I would no longer be the target of hostility from my neighbors, be subject to the invasion of privacy from vagrants, and generally dislike the place where I lived. She was very helpful during the whole process, even going as far to try to help me find a new place. Oh, also the boiler is LOUD. It will come on in the middle of the night and keep you up. They really need to fix it.

Ive lived here for about a year now and it’s been an overall good experience. Rent is cheap given the location and the office and maintenance teams are pretty reliable. I must warn you though DO NOT take the basement apartment! The heating pipe goes directly through it so you have no way of controlling the heat and you will bake down there! It would be a different story if they gave a discounted price but it’s the same price as the rest which have a bigger bathroom and can control the heat. Overall though it’s a good place to live but again DO NOT take the basement
